Vazhaipoo Adai

Vazhaipoo Adai - Adai is basically a healthy combination of cereal and lentils, proves good not only for the growing children,but for the grown ups too. When the cereal and lentils are combined with veggies it becomes a satiating meal by itself. This recipe is taken from a book written by revathi shanmugam mam.





Key ingredients:

Vazhaipoo/ Banana flower

Rice

Lentils

Spices

Veggies preferably onion, coconut, curry leaves

Oil or ghee

Equipment required: blender and tawa

Recipe:
 1 cup = 250ml

Ingredients with measurements:

Banana flower - 1/2

Onion - 1 or shallots - 1 cup

Idly rice - 1/2 cup

Raw rice - 1/2 cup

Moong dal - 3/4 th cup

Chana dal - 1/2 cup

Tuvar dal - 1/2 cup

Urad dal - 1/4 cup

Coconut grated - 1/4 cup

Curry leaves - 1 sprig

Coriander leaves -  little

Saunf - 1 tsp

Red  chillies - 10 or 12

Hing- 1/2 tsp

Directions:

1. Soak the rice and dal separately for atleast 4 hrs.

2. Grind the rice with red chillies and saunf

3. Chop the onions and saute them till translucent.

4. Add curry leaves, hing and grated coconut. Switch off the flame.

5. Pour the tempering into the batter. Add Coriander leaves and mix well.

6. Pour a ladleful of batter in the hot tawa and spread it as you would  do for dosa. Cook till golden on both the sides.
