Puttu always holds a special place in our table
I'm using store bought puttu powder which i feel is convenient and easy to make. One can also prepare puttu powder by soaking red rice in water for 2 hours and allowing it to air dry in the shade after draining the water and grinding it coarsely to a rava consistency. Ok to the recipe
Ingredients:
Red rice puttu flour - 1 cup
Warm water - 1.5 cups( roughly)
Coconut - 1/4 cup
Salt. ( most store bought puttu flours have salt)
Directions:
1. Dry roast the flour until warm.
2. Add warm water 1 tablespoon at a time to the flour and mix thoroughly, such that when you press the flour firmly between your arms it should hold its shape and become powdery when you release it.
3. In a puttu maker in the bottom vessel add water in the top vessel add 1 ladleful of flour, then 1 tsp grated coconut, again flour, agin coconut. Repeat till there is none of the flour is left.
4. Steam for 15 minutes or till done.
5. Serve with sweetened coconut milk , egg curry or kadala curry.
