Tomato rasam 2




 Tomato rasam without using rasam powder.

Recipe:

Tomato - 3

Tamarind - gooseberry sized 

Tuvar dal - slightly less than 1/2 cup

Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp

Salt - to taste

Water - as required

Grind together:

Green chillies - 2

Garlic cloves - 4

Curry leaves - a sprig

Pepper- 1/2 spoon

Cumin seeds - 1 spoon

Tempering:

Ghee - 1/2 spoon

Mustard - a generous  pinch

Curry leaves  - a sprig

Coriander leaves - a little 

Hing - a generous  pinch.

Directions:

1. Pressure cook the dal.

1. Chop the tomatoes . Add turmeric, salt, enough water  to cover the tomatoes and Cook them until they turn mushy.

2. Add tamarind  extract and cook for 5 minutes.

3. Add the paste cook till raw smell goes away.

4. Add cooked dal and enough water to attain the consistency of  rasam.

5. Boil the rasam until frothy.

6. Switch off and add the tempering.
