Pasi Paruppu Urundai/Moong dal ladoo

Pasi paruppu urundai - Homemade moong dal ladoo using minimum ingredients. Moong dal is a highly nutritious lentil especially for growing up children. My yonger son has a sweet tooth and would often ask for cakes and sweets. Dry jamun is his favourite. We were hesitant to buy sweets from outside, so I thought of making something which is nutritious as well as something which will satisfy his sweet cravings, therefore tried this recipe which was liked by one and all.


                                            


Ingredients:

Lentils - Split yellow moong dal is used.

Sweetener - White sugar is used. Brown sugar or jaggery can be used.

Nuts and spices - Cashews and cardamom are used.

Oils and fats - Ghee is used.

Method:

Dry roast moong dal.

Powder moong dal, sugar and cardamom.

Season ghee with Cashewnuts.

Mix ghee with the powder. 

Shape them into balls.

Store it in an airtight container.

Variations:

Add raisins, almonds with cashewnuts.

Moong Dal Ladoo

Sweetened Balls made from moong dal lentils

Total time taken - 20 minutes

No. Of servings - 10

1 cup = 200ml

Ingredients with measurements:

Yellow moong dal - 1 cup.

White sugar - 3/4 cup.

Cardamom - 2/3 pods.

Cashewnuts - a few

Ghee - 1/4 cup.

Directions:

1.Dry roast moong dal and cardamom till it emits nice aroma by keeping the flame low. Allow to cool down.

2. Powder moong dal and cardamom. Transfer to a bowl.

3. Powder white sugar. Add it to powdered moong dal.

4. Melt ghee.

5. Add cashews to the melted ghee and saute till golden brown.

6. Add the melted ghee cashew mixture to the powdered moong dal.

7. Spread the ghee evenly with the help of a spoon or ladle.



8. Take a little mixture, press firmly between your palms  and shape them into balls.

9. Repeat with the rest of the mixture.

19. Store the prepared balls in an airtight container.

Note:

1. Be careful not to burn the moong dal while dry roasting We don't want burnt smell in the moong dal ladoo.

2. Cardamom can be sauteed along with cashews instead of powdering.

3. If using essence use 1/4 tsp of cardamom essence.
